| Greetings: Welcome to my sixth Newsletter! Happy Ground Hogs Day. The most moronic holiday of them all, yep we spend hours of media coverage to watch a stupid animal pop his head of a hole he's dug himself in. Then after the State of the Union address we turn to Puxtatony Phil to see if we have six more weeks of winter. Most of the information here will also be available on my website. There will also be selected entries from my Blog, and updated show schedules. |

Movie Reviews:
The Matador The other day was one of those rare evenings where my wife and I actually went out to see a movie sans son. It's rare we get to see a movie that doesn't seem to be a Disney movie. We had wanted to see Munich but it wasn't playing near us so we went to see The Matador. The Matador stars ex James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan as a hitman going through basically a mid life crisis and burnout. A random meeting between him and a down on his luck business man meeting in a Mexican bar leads to a strange friendship between these two. However, don't think this is some sappy male bonding story, it's a pretty good laugh out loud, well acted movie. I would definitely recommend this as a good date movie or husband and wife movie for the over 30 set. My wife and I laughed out loud numerous times throughout this movie. |
Music for the moment: Recently I've been listening to the Blues on my XM Radio. One day I heard this song called Mississippi Soul. At the time I couldn't figure by the voice if it was a black woman or a black guy singing. It was one of those types of voices. I ended up hearing the song a few more times and discovered it is by a recording artist by the name of Slick Ballinger. Much to my surprise he is this 21 year old white guy. Pardon my being stereotypical but you don't imagine a 21 year old white kid with the type of soul he was belting out. You wouldn't even think someone that young could have such soul. If the rest of his music is anything like Mississippi Soul this kid has one bright future ahead of him. Maybe I'll download the EP (legally of course) and review it next month.

On the Serious Tip: From this
Blog Entry A friend recently informed me of the pointless murder of a good man. Blair Shannon may not have been a household name but when I was informed by my friend if I knew Blair the first words out of my mouth were, "I haven't seen him a LONG time, he's a really nice guy!" While I hadn't worked with or seen Blair in several years I remembered him as soon as I heard the name. You usually only remember a person by name that quickly for one of two reasons. The person is an a-hole or, like in the case of Blair, the person left such a positive memorable impression on you that you remember them in a heartbeat. I remember Blair as being a very positive and very happy guy. It's a shame that the comedy world has lost one of the really good guys well before his time due to a random act of violence. Peace be with you my brother. |
